Pig Gross Anatomy

Before you even think of getting a pig, get gloves, goggles and an apron. Also, get some dissecting tools. Be careful with them!

Now, grab a pig and a dissecting pan. Place excess preservative fluid in the waste container. Lay out your pig in a pan and make a general sketch.

In order to properly orient yourself with the pig and figure out where the manual and web pages are directing you, you will need to learn the system for anatomical direction. Please review this website and then come back to label your pig. You don’t need to write them down now, but the definitions on this page will help you with your write up as you proceed.

Draw the lateral view for your write up. Label the obvious structures. Use the extra books to label the ones that you don't know. It should look like this:
